IDA Mae's - Authentic Soul Food Experience in Waxahachie, TX

The collard greens did not disappoint! Although the greens are what primarily drew me to Ida Mae's, I thoroughly enjoyed my experience. The interior is cozy and the staff friendly. There's a very nice outdoor area for seating. There were two of us who met for lunch there. Between us we had the catfish, smothered pork chops, collard greens, cabbage, black-eyed peas, and mac & cheese. The smothered pork chops were excellent. The meat was very tender and flavorful. The catfish had a nice crispy coating, but my catfish pieces were rather dry. All of the sides were quite good With the collards being the stand out. I will definitely return!

Today I tried a little soul food restaurant that I just happened to stumble across. Its located across from a property I own. My friends and I were seated in a timely manner (about 10 min wait) it was packed meaning at least 20 people ahead of us. The staff was friendly and the service was great not super fast but understandable as again this is Sunday and a lot of ppl did come here. The food was delicious. My friends loved their catfish and pork chops.. I had the chicken wings .. amazing !! And the atmosphere was very comforting and to have food that reminds you of your childhood meals really hits home .I would come again and recommend as it is good southern cooking.

Wow. No other words...just WOW! Seriously though, this food makes me miss Sunday at my Memaws house. Everything was delicious!!!!

Great chicken wings and collard greens. Highly recommended. Good and friendly service. We have ordered most items on the menu and have enjoyed every meal. Highly recommended!

Do you recommend this business? ABSOLUTELY!!!! I am so glad that I came across this location. I initially came here wanting some oxtails, but learned that that entree and other southern classics are offered on the weekends only. So instead, I ordered the fried catfish, collard greens, yams and two chicken wings on the side. Everything was seasoned to perfection, cooked thoroughly and tasted nice and fresh. You can tell this location gets a lot of foot traffic by the way people were pulling up and ordering on a regular weekday, and I was so glad to see it . Such friendly workers, with a nice combination of different kinds of people, ranging from young to older people. The guy operating the register either Hispanic or some type of Asian , he was so welcoming and friendly. Happily Answering questions and explaining the menu. I'm not sure if the older black woman that was there present when I was ordering is Ms. Ida Mae. if that was her, that made my visit even more enjoyable/authentic. It's always a plus to see the owners actively working together with their team. Location was really clean and instead of just standing around, the workers were walking around sweeping , wiping down tables and counters. That's always a plus. That shows that they value and respect where they work. And as they should. This establishment also attracts some really kind people/customers. It had to have been maybe 5 different parties ordering food Togo , and everyone was talking and helping each other out with the Menu and the returning customers were also answering questions for us newbies and giving their positive feedback. It was definitely an experience that was had. I can't wait to return and try other things on the menu. ....... 10/10.....

Be patient, everything is prepared fresh and worth the wait. The staff makes everyone feel like old friends. And the sweet tea is respectable

Took my son to lunch here today and from the moment we walked in and smelled the food from the moment we left with full bellies was a great experience! Best fried chicken I think I've ever had, we both got chicken wings and even he stripped them to the bone! The Cake Daddy cake bowl was a plus! This will definitely be a regular spot for us now and I'm bummed we didn't make it a point to go sooner!

I love soul food!!! This spot did not disappoint. I used to hit the BBQ spot that was at this location and am happy with what it is now. Do yourself a favor and give Ida Mae's a shot.
